The Cinderella Challenge
Dangerous Gifts Series - Book 2.5
A Cinderella Christmas Anthology
By Mary Jo Putney
Kensington Books - October 2026
Historical Romance
A Cinderella Christmas Anthology consists of three stories, each standing on its own. As can be surmised by the title, they are each variations of the Cinderella fairy tale and set at Christmas. They are Mistletoe Maiden by Sabrina Jeffries, The Cinderella Challenge by Mary Jo Putney and A Winter’s Wish by Anna Bradley.
As one of the "Tribe of Tremayne", Cameron Tremayne was one of the many gifted foster children raised by Rhys and Gwyn Tremayne. He was sent on missions for his father, and when he received his most recent letter, Cam was sent to the Dockyards to investigate. But he was soon to discover more than just a threat to the Inspector General.
Thrown out of her home as a child due to her gifts, Casey Harris had been lucky to survive. However, she had to hide her true identity. Instead of being Cassandra, a young lady who should have had a comfortable upbringing, she'd become Casey, a clerk at the dockyard. But it was in this position that she'd gotten a feeling and suspected that there was a threat to Sir Samuel Bentham, the Inspector General, so she had contacted Lord Tremayne at the Home Office.
Casey had hoped to simply protect Sir Bentham, but soon, she is discovering that a whole new life is available to her.
The Cinderella Challenge was an interesting Cinderella tale with a hateful father, and a paranormal twist. I found this world building of people with "gifts", and those who held prejudices against them, interesting. I loved the "Tribe of Tremayne" and would like to read move. Luckily, I have learned they are in the Dangerous Gifts series, and although it is obvious there are other stories, The Cinderella Challenge stands on its own.
