Simi Naik had a hard childhood where the only positive influence had been her sister Rupi. She had left Rupi and her past and made a nice life for herself in America. She had a job, and also worked as a nanny for triplets she adored. And she was in love with their uncle Prem Gupta. They had been secretly dating awhile, but she feared if they made it public. Her status for remaining in America depended on her job, and she could not return to India.
Rupi had made it to America, but she hadn't let her sister know. She'd wanted to stay away, keep her safe, but she was out of options. What had seemed like a wonderful opportunity had become a nightmare. Her passport had been taken, and she was on the run from them. Only when she felt she had no other choice did she go to Simi.
Rupi is in a desperate situation when she and Simi reunite. Without paperwork, she is at risk of being sent back to India, and Simi knows there is only one solution. Rupi would have to marry the man Simi loves.
How Simi Got Her Groom Back is an intense read dealing with topics such as human trafficking, immigration, and relationships. Simi and Rupi love each other, but Simi is dealing with never having felt as if she was enough to be part of the Gupta family, and now she is jealous of Rupi experiencing all that she had dreamed of. Rupi has had to fight her whole life. Due to their mother's negligence, Rupi had become Simi’s protector. She had done what she needed for them both. That included sending Simi away, and fighting to survive. I enjoyed the familial interactions of all the Guptas, and of Rupi and Simi finding their way to heal their relationship. And as the title states, it was interesting to see how Simi would get her groom back.
